Received in the mail today as a surprise RABCK. Thank you! I read this book a few years ago, but will be re-reading for a bookclub discussion. It's an intense mystery with a strong sense of setting, keenly drawn characters, and a can't-put-it-down plot. Lehane gets better with every book!

Bookray now in progress. New members welcome, but will be added to the end of the list. 9300 miles traveled as of 6/6.

Received this book as part of the bookring. Great timing...I was ready for a new book to read. Will read and review then send on to the next on the list.

This was a rather intense story with lots of twists and turns. It is a shame that human nature is probably exactly as it is portrayed in this story. Not sure I want to see the movie now that I've read the book.

This book is on its way to lilmztaz the next in the bookring.

Received this book in the mail today. I have quite a few bookray books in front of it, but I am a fast reader and will get to it as soon as possible.

Released on Monday, January 26, 2004 at Post Office at 153rd and Garrett in Apple Valley, Minnesota Controlled Releases.

I am sending this out to the next person on the list without reading it. I am off to India in a week or so and don't think it should have to sit in my house until I get back in March. Perhaps it will pay another visit when it gets closer to the end of its journey.

A murder mystery that delves into the psychological minds of the guilty.

Came in today's mail, can't wait to read!

Journal Entry 14 by fanclub on Sunday, March 28, 2004
This was a quick, enjoyable read. I was nervous at first about the subject matter that the book opens with, cause that makes me kinda queasy. However, the author never gets graphic or disturbing with it, so it was OK. I was in suspense most of the way through the book, but I did figure out "whodunnit" before the characters did. I also didn't really like the whole "Godfather"-style ending of the book, it just seemed a bit dramatic and unrealistic to me.

On its way to Shadowraven next!

I received this in the mail today and have been very anxious to read it. I may just put down Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in order to read through this next. I saw the film version when it came out and was hypnotized by Eastwood's slow pacing of his film and the strong characterization portrayed by the actors. I hope I find the book as interesting (I know better than to compare versions). I'm teaching a Novels & Their Movies class next year; I will be reading this to see if I can put it on an extra credit or supplementary list since the material is not appropriate for a class assignment in our conservative location.

I'm 200 pages into the book and cannot put it down. I find myself sneaking a chapter in right before I go to bed if that's all I've been able to read that day, even if I'm dead tired. I cannot get enough of these characters. As my first child grows inside of me I cannot empathize enough with Jimmy. His insight touches me the most. Just like the movie, this novel has kind of a slow, yet methodical pacing to it that I enjoy...the characters are so well established. Even though I know the "answer" I'm still anxious to get to the end of the book and see how the novel closes this all.

I knew the basic plot of the story, but getting deeper into each character's psyche was well worth it. Some of their final decisions made me quite angry, which of course means I was heavily engaged in the book. Like Fanclub I found the ending to be a bit unrealistic. How is Jimmy going to work so hard only to seemingly regress?

I liked this read so much I may look into others by the same author this summer. I will be sending this on to the next person as soon as I receive their address.

I do have a couple of bookrings ahead of this one, but I should get through them pretty quickly. Can't wait to read this, saw the movie and just "know" that the book will be amazing......
